Cataract

Cataract is one of the most common diseases of the eye that affects a sizable section of  world’s population. Although most cataracts appear in patients above 40 years of age.

pediatric cataract is not a rare phenomenon either, Your eye surgeon will perform a process called phacoemulsification.

During which the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear man-made focusing lens.

These artificial lenses (called an intraocular lens implant, or IOL) remain permanently inside your eye and do not degrade.

The entire process takes less than 30 minutes and is absolutely painless.

Cornea

The cornea is a transparent outermost layer of  human eye.

The cornea is not a single layer; it’s made of five delicate membranes that are arranged one below the other.

Cornea plays a major role in focusing your vision; its transparency and its curvy shape help in refracting light from an object in a way that it falls at  perfect spot on the retina. thereby enabling sharpness of vision.

The cornea also acts as a protective layer preventing all dust, dirt and germs from entering into the inside of our eyes.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition of  human eye where a optic nerve gets damaged due to excessive pressure inside your eye.

Optic nerve is a primary carrier of visual stimulus to the brain, damage to it could actually result in a significant loss of vision.

Glaucoma generally affects both of eyes, although  pressure inside each eye could be different.

Surgery helps to open up  blocks in the drainage pipe to enable the outflow to fluid.

This can be performed by a procedure called Trabeculectomy (TRAB) or using LASER.

Refractive Surgery

Refractive eye surgery is an eye surgery used to improve  refractive state of the eye and decrease or eliminate dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

This can include various methods of surgical remodeling of the cornea (keratomileusis), lens implantation or lens replacement (cataract surgery).

The most common methods today use excimer lasers to reshape and curvature of the cornea.

Successful refractive eye surgery can reduce or cure common vision disorders such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, as well as degenerative disorders like keratoconus.

Retina

The retina is a innermost layer of the eye and is light sensitive in nature.

When we see an object,  light rays pass through the  lens in our eyes  and  fall on  retina.

They get converted into neural signals/impulses here and the optic nerve carries these visual stimuli to brain that translates them back as images.

The retinal layer is present in  back of a eye and almost at its center it is a pigmented portion  is called  Macula.

It is this pigmented portion that attributes to the sharpness of vision.

Pediatric Ophthalmology

Pediatric ophthalmology is a subspecialty of ophthalmology that concentrates on treating the various eye problems affecting children.

Studies show that a lot of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learning issues in children can be attributed to vision problems.

Especially because most kids do not report the problem to their parents for often they lack of ability to understand that there’s been a change in this visual skills.

It, therefore, becomes the primary responsibility of parents to notice any change in their kids’ behavioural pattern like watching TV from a close distance or excessively straining to read from a book or performing badly at school all of a sudden.

Oculoplasty Treatment

Oculoplasty gives a ray of hope for patients that have orbital deformities, most of these would require surgical corrections and ocularists generally perform  surgeries along with neurologists and plastic surgeons.

There may also be situations when a eye will have to be completely removed, like for instance, at an advanced stage of cancer or an accident.

An empty eye socket could be quite traumatizing for patient. In such scenarios, an artificial eye (ocular prosthesis) can be implanted to improve the patient’s psychological condition.

Lasik Surgery

Lasik Surgery is referred to as Laser eye surgery, It is best option to eliminate the dependency on glasses and contact lenses.

The shape of your Cornea attributes to your eye power. You could have myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism  depending on this point.

where a light from an object you see, get focussed inside your eyes, during a laser vision correction surgery, the shape of your Cornea is altered in such a way that light entering into eye, It is focused at the right spot on a retina.

This is a simple procedure and takes less than half an hour from start to finish. Also, you’ll be able to resume your normal life in just a few days.
